The book · Splitting

If you are divorcing or co-parenting with someone whose behavior fits the patterns Bill Eddy calls high-conflict (relentless blame, distortion, hostile emails, and legal aggression), Splitting is the field manual. Written by Bill Eddy, LCSW, Esq. and Randi Kreger, it walks through what to expect, how to protect yourself and your kids inside the process, and what to avoid doing that makes it worse.

The book uses clinical language about personality patterns (borderline and narcissistic). We are not here to diagnose anyone's co-parent. We are here to talk about the patterns and the practical moves that help you stay grounded, keep the kids in the center, and stop feeding the conflict. Bill Eddy co-founded the High Conflict Institute; his frameworks show up throughout our coaching, including 1-to-1 coaching, the SAFE™ Ghostwriting program, and the 6-Week High Conflict Co-Parenting Skills Intensive™.

What we will cover on September 23

Please read the book before the session if you can. It is longer than BIFF, so pick chapters that speak to your situation if you are short on time.
  • The "splitting" dynamic and how it plays out in co-parenting
  • Why familiar strategies (reasoning, over-explaining, apologizing) backfire with high-conflict personalities
  • Documentation, patterns to look for, and what to keep vs. what to let go
  • What Bill and Randi say about protecting your kids inside the process
  • How to work with your attorney (and when to consider changing)
  • Live Q&A on real scenarios you bring to the session
